Sermon: “Love Changes Everything” by Rev. James Reisner
Jesus goes up a mountain with three of his closest disciples. There he is transfigured – the Greek word is "metamorphosized." His appearance is radically transformed into bright light. A voice descends from heaven saying, “This is my beloved. Listen to him.”
From then on, listening to Jesus will be hard for his disciples. Jesus will be talking about his own death on a cross. Following him will become much more difficult and dangerous. The disciples will need to change, too, as they walk in the steps their rabbi on the Via Dolorosa that lies ahead.
February 14th, as everyone knows, is Valentine’s Day. It is also Transfiguration Sunday in the Christian liturgical calendar. The confluence of the two observances is fitting. Nothing changes us the way love does.
“Are our hearts transfigured in such a way that we are transformed into hearing the call of Christ to love another?”
--Calum MacLeod
After worship, we will send people to Zoom break out rooms so that people can visit and converse with one another more easily.
We plan to continue to do this on the 2nd and last Sundays of the month.
About Online Worship
We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 10:45 AM). At the moment, Pastor Reisner and a few others broadcast from the church sanctuary while worshipers will be invited to sign on ZOOM.
Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
