Sermon: "Immersion" by Rev. Mark Harper
“The struggle for justice, dignity, power, and community means that we must move from sympathy to solidarity. Sympathy feels bad about a situation. Solidarity joins in as a co-laborer to change the situation. Sympathy calls for love without risk. Solidarity calls for risk as love. Sympathy centers the comfort and timetable of those who benefit from a system of difference. Solidarity calls for a revolution of value in a system in which we build a loving and just common life together.”

For our Mission Partner Spotlight this week, we welcome Cynthia Marshall, director of Action in Montgomery (AIM), to our virtual worship. She will be highlighting some opportunities to participate in upcoming community listening sessions. We are deeply grateful for AIM’s important work and proud to be a partner congregation.
Please continue to pray for neighbors, family members, congregants, medical workers, and all in our city and country being impacted by COVID. The start of this year’s confirmation class will be delayed by at least a few weeks due to the Omicron surge. We’ll keep you posted.
And finally, what’s that white stuff on the ground called again? I seem to remember it from a long-ago time, and in a galaxy far, far away. Or maybe it was Pennsylvania…
Grace and peace,
Mark
About Online Worship
We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 10:45 AM).
Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
