Sermon: “What God Intends for Good” by Rev. Jim Reisner

We continue with the Joseph narrative this Sunday. Joseph has become the second in command in all of Egypt. The prosperity and then famine that he predicted in his interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream has come true.

In the second year of drought and famine, his eleven brothers travel to Egypt to plea for relief. In our scripture lesson, Joseph reveals himself to the astonishment and fear of his brothers who long ago had traded him in to bondage. Rather than punish them, Joseph is moved deeply by their presence and forgives them.

He tells them, “Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good.” --Genesis 50:20

How do we see God at work in a pandemic? What good can happen amidst great suffering?

About Online Worship

We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 9:45 AM). At the moment, Pastor Reisner and a few others broadcast from the church sanctuary while worshipers will be invited to sign on ZOOM.

Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
