Sermon: “A Vision for the Future” by Rev. Jim Reisner

From Genesis we hear about Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream. From the story of 7 healthy cows being devoured by 7 unhealthy cows, Joseph divines that there will be 7 years of prosperity followed by 7 years of severe famine. He is appointed commerce secretary of Egypt and prepares them for the challenge to come.

Many of us see the COVID-19 pandemic as a nightmare, and rightly so. Yet, there is an opportunity to learn. As we have seen areas of nature rebound during an economic shut down, can we learn the value of lowering our carbon output and meeting the challenge of global warming.

“Look no further than what's happened during this crisis. The shutdown to industry has offered a glimpse of what collective response can look like, … maybe we still have a window to take a step back. And if we do, maybe the Earth will meet us halfway …  [Let’s] flatten the carbon curve too. And if we did that, then people might look back in fifty years at this time and thank us, instead of curse us.” -- Bill McKibben

About Online Worship

We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 9:45 AM). At the moment, Pastor Reisner and a few others broadcast from the church sanctuary while worshipers will be invited to sign on ZOOM.

Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
