Sermon: "Shaped By Story" by Rev. Mark Harper
A note about upcoming sermons:
Most of the time, I’m a lectionary preacher – meaning that I normally follow the suggested readings of the common lectionary and let them, along with events in congregational life and in our community and world, guide my sermon themes. I hope and trust that the Holy Spirit is in that mix somewhere, as well.
But for the remainder of the church year, I want to try something a little different, at least for me. I will be drawing on foundational passages from both the Hebrew scriptures and the New Testament to help us try and listen for the ways God introduces the idea of new, alternative life and a Beloved Community into creation as well as into the lives of those who are paying attention (and maybe even some who are not!). The Bible is complicated, but I think I hear an ongoing hum throughout that is inviting a new song and a new way of life in resistance to the death-dealing Powers of our world. I hope that the passages we listen to together will inspire you to think about others that tell the same story and might speak to you even more powerfully. So let’s buckle up and see where the Spirit leads us!
Hybrid Worship Continues This Sunday
We continue to live-stream our worship with the primary focus on delivering a complete service for people participating on Zoom.
This Sunday our services will originate from the Sanctuary for the first time since it was closed for renovations during the summer. People are welcome to come to church for worship, but no one should feel obligated to be personally present.
We respectfully ask that everyone wear masks in the church for their own health. Those who are presenting or leading the congregation in singing may remove their masks while they are presenting or singing.
About Online Worship
We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 10:45 AM).
Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
