Sermon: "Birthing a Movement" by Rev. Mark Harper
“It’s the heat that drives the light.
It’s the fire it ignites.
It’s not the waking, it’s the rising …Power has been cried by those stronger than me
Straight into the face that tells you to rattle your chains
If you love bein’ free.”Hozier, featuring Mavis Staples, “Nina Cried Power”
Hybrid Worship Continues This Sunday
We continue to live-stream our worship with the primary focus on delivering a complete service for people participating on Zoom.
This Sunday our services will originate from the Sanctuary for the first time since it was closed for renovations during the summer. People are welcome to come to church for worship, but no one should feel obligated to be personally present.
We respectfully ask that everyone wear masks in the church for their own health. Those who are presenting or leading the congregation in singing may remove their masks while they are presenting or singing.
On November 7th we will be celebrating All Saints Sunday, giving thanks for the great cloud of witnesses of all the faithful who have gone before us and who continue to give us courage on our own journeys of discipleship. In keeping with TPPC tradition, a table will be available under one balcony in the sanctuary for displaying photos or other mementos of loved ones who have “joined the saints in light,” as one prayer puts it.
In addition this year we are inviting you to share the names of family members or friends who have died in the last year. Since so many of us now are connected to someone who has suffered a loss due to COVID-19 we especially encourage you to share those names, along with any others from your extended circles. These names will be read in that day’s worship service.
If you have questions, please contact Mark Harper or Jean Dickey with our Worship Committee.
All names should be sent to the church office by Wednesday, November 3rd at office@takomaparkpc.org.
As Jesus makes clear in this week’s gospel reading, the church is truly an expansive family.
About Online Worship
We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 10:45 AM).
Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
