Sermon: “A Way Through the Waters” by Rev. James Reisner
Walter Brueggemann describes the Israelites passage through the Red Sea waters as the “primal saving event.” It sets forth the idea that God calls people from bondage to freedom, that God provides, that God will never abandon, and that, therefore, we will not fear. All these ideas find expression in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
And so this Sunday, we will sing an Easter hymn: Come You Faithful, Raise the Strain, the first stanza of which is,
Come, you faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness!
God has brought forth Israel into joy from sadness,
Loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter yoke Jacob’s sons and daughters;
Led them with unmoistened foot through the Red Sea waters.
Our worship hour changes this week to our program year schedule. Our worship will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Since we cannot gather to bless the backpacks, and since much of our schooling and work is happening through the computer, this Sunday we will have a blessing of the laptops. Let us seek God’s blessing on all of our ventures this fall, and pray for health for the days ahead.
About Online Worship
We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 10:45 AM). At the moment, Pastor Reisner and a few others broadcast from the church sanctuary while worshipers will be invited to sign on ZOOM.
Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
