Sermon: On the Edge of the Desert
Our preacher for this Sunday is Leah Threatte, an elder, and the clerk of session, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Albany, New York. She is also an attorney and mother of a seven-year-old. Leah enjoys writing, and leading discussions on issues of race, gender and inequality.
Leah will preach on the story of the twelve spies who go into Canaan. Ten come back with fear on their lips, reporting that there are giants in the land; two, Joshua and Caleb, encourage the people to go forward with trust in God.
Leah writes, “What if we walked down the ridge, into the valley, looked the giants in the eye, and called them brother, sister? Asked to live among them and even in their debt? What if we allowed our eyes to see them as humans, with dignity and the fragility and strength that comes with humanity?”
About Online Worship
We will gather by ZOOM (feed available starting about 10:45 AM). At the moment, Pastor Reisner and a few others broadcast from the church sanctuary while worshipers will be invited to sign on ZOOM.
Directions on how to connect and participate in virtual worship will be sent via a group.io e-mail. If you are unfamiliar with ZOOM we recommend you read up a little before the service. We will set an informal and experimental mood, ask forgiveness as we stumble along our way in a new medium. It will be fun.
