Good News from Sister Parish in Nicaragua

The Jiñocuao Committee has just received a letter dated October 27 from our friends at our sister parish, San José Church, in Jiñocuao, Nicaragua. We are pleased to report that the news is mostly happy (this is not always the case) so there's lots of reasons to thank God. The first paragraph invokes our upcoming election.

"Brothers and sisters, we feel united with you in prayer and in spirit, in these bad times, full of threats such as the COVID-19 pandemic and other problems of a social nature that affect the planet and our countries. We hope that God enlightens the minds of you and all the inhabitants of your country, so that you can elect the president that you deserve and that Nicaraguans and the world also hope that he is elected."

There is good news on the COVID-19 pandemic and the crops.

"In our municipality and in most of Nicaragua this virus has had a low incidence," they write. "God has given us abundant rains. Our families have their fields full of corn and squash. We will have a harvest. This guarantees our survival."

Of course, there are issues. The country is going through a strong economic crisis, they write, and they have had problems with the purchase of basic food products due to the high unemployment rate. There have been outbreaks of diseases such as dengue, which has affected some members of their community.

They say they want to see us in the future but understand that, given current realities, it will be easier for us to travel there than for them to come to the United States

"Maybe times will change, and the turbulent waters will calm down and we can realize our dreams of walking together in hand in hand and with firm steps in the construction of the kingdom of God and in the strengthening of our brotherhood. Our faith remains active, we are always meeting on Sundays to celebrate the word of our God and reflect on it in the face of the current reality we live in."
