Join Us for Our Sanctuary Rededication Celebration on February 27

Takoma Park Presbyterian Church – an inclusive, welcoming congregation – will host a community celebration to mark the rededication of its refurbished sanctuary on Sunday, February 27 at 2 p.m. at 310 Tulip Ave., Takoma Park.

The celebration will include music and speakers featuring Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart and General Presbyter of the National Capital Presbytery John Molina-Moore. The event will be followed by a reception at 3 p.m. Both events are free and the public is encouraged to attend in person or view the live stream via zoom.

The celebration will mark the recent completion of a major restoration of the Church building including repair of the church’s century-old roof, as well as addressing other long-deferred structural maintenance and water damage. The result is stunning, restoring the sanctuary – with its hardwood floors, stained glass windows, and Celtic iconography – to its earliest days. The Church raised funds for the restoration through a major capital campaign in 2020.

In addition to its primary purpose as a sacred worship space, for over 125 years Takoma Park Presbyterian has played an important role in supporting the broader community. It opens its doors to a wide array of organizations that work alongside the church to fight for social justice, advocate for the marginalized, and amplify voices of compassion and caring for creation.

“We’re holding this very public event to show our gratitude to the community for its support of both our church and our mission for more than 125 years,” said the Rev. Mark Harper, pastor of Takoma Park Presbyterian. “We feel we’ve always been something of a ‘coral reef’ for our community – both providing social nourishment and serving as a bellwether of our health. Thanks to generous contributions of members, partners, and friends, we’re well-positioned to continue in that role for the next 125 years and beyond.”
